Hope all of you breastfeeding Mamas out there had a wonderful World Breastfeeding Week!! (Aug 1-7)
Our son Joey weaned himself from nursing at 23 mos (while I was 8mos pregnant with his little sister), and our daughter Lily is now 26 mos and still nursing strong! That photo up there is Lily when she was just 4 wks. :) Baby girl nurses a couple of times per day - and a couple of times per night. It's been a long and healthy 4+ years of breastmilk for my babies, and I am so happy and thankful that I was able to breastfeed them since the moment they were born!
When it comes to breasfeeding, the very first and the absolutle most important thing to do with a newborn baby is to get him/her to latch on correctly for the very first feeding, and also to begin that feeding within the first hour of birth. We had a wonderful Doula for my pregnancies with both Joey and Lily, so she was there to help ensure breastfeeding got going on the right path.
Not sure how to do that? If you're birthing in a hospital, ask for a lactation consultant while you are in labor. She'll arrive when you give birth and then with her help you can begin the amazing journey of breastfeeding.
What else do you need to know? Here are some resources:
This is what Lily rocked to her Birthday Party!! A new dress, handmade by me for her, entitled "Happy colorful summertime friends." Featuring a very limited colorful Japanese kawaii fabric with ultra adorable little critters, and a very rare retro floral fabric by Denyse Schmidt in turquoise.
Lily had lots of fun wearing this dress...for approximately 5 minutes. I love this dress!! But we couldn't keep it...I made it for a sweet customer, an awesome Mama...so it's going out to a special little girl in Ontario, Canada...for her 2nd birthday!! I hope she loves her FUN and geeky little robot awesomeness!! :D
My baby girl's hair is getting so long. In the back, her sweet and gorgeous little curls are turning into spirals! Good, because I'm sure those will hold more sticky food in them, too. :)
Lovely little hair scarf was her prop for a few minutes too since it
coordinates with the dress. And this orangey goodness? I had to
creatively take off her head, since she wanted to keep the hair scarf
for herself! "Me keep it, Mama".
Can you even imagine how difficult it is to say no to that beautiful little face?? Oh and the sentences she speaks these days are amazing. Just amazing. I'll tell you about them someday.
OK it's 5AM, the kids are still asleep...I've been up since 1AM making things happen over here. :)
Here's my little preschool-swim-class graduate!!!!! I'm so proud of my little big-boy.
Look at Joey leaping into the pool:
Joey loved going his swimming lessons! It was a four-day Level 1 swim class, one week long, for kids ages 3-5. So yeah - lots of preschool-aged cuteness there every morning. His instructor was awesome, Joey really enjoyed taking swimming lessons and it had plenty to do with his laid-back instructor who made the class really enjoyable, fun and relaxed for the kids.
Look at my future Olympic swimmer right here:
We'll be signing Joey up for the Level 2 class soon...even though Joey told me he didn't need any swimming lessons at all because he already knows how to swim. My little Aquaman. He was a monster in the pool! No fear.
Shannon I'm off to eMail you to find out what size you'd like your super fab baby blue Monsterlicious hoody. And I hope you and your kiddo fall completely in LOVE with your Nero the Monster Hoody!!!

Shipping out more of these lovely handmade dresses today to some wonderful customers. I love a unique and mod dress on a little girl, especially when there are elephants on her sleeves! These super fun and colorful dresses are really such fun to make too, just knowing some lucky little girl out there is going to fall in love with her pretty new dress!
Off to get my own baby girl Lily dressed for the day. :D
I recently realized that my kiddo has been wearing the same pair of
pants for the past 3 years! Back in the day we'd call them "high-waters". ha!
And no, it's not that my kiddo hasn't grown...but I
handmade his lounge pants to fit for years, and...looky there, it
worked! No high-waters here...unless Mama custom made them to be super cool! :D
Yep, this will be the fourth summer that my 4 year old
Joey has rocked the handmade Ankle Biters lounge pants that I made for
him when he was 15 months old! His Cabana
Striped with Green Elephants pants that he's wearing
below...well...they used to be pants...now, they're shorts:
Here's how Joey looked the very first time he wore those pants...on a beach vacation:
fun watching him grow out of...and into...these pants/shorts!
He loves those pants so much - and I adore him in them, they are just so super fun to wear!! And so, I made him another pair...the exact same cabana striped fabric with green elephants trim. Here he is with Lily (in her coordinating top, of course!) at the "Got to be NC" Festival last week:
We had so much fun that day! Hope you're having a season filled with carnivals and festivals! Good times! :D
Take a look at these fun EtsyKids team finds. There's Lily in her turquoise Vespa Scooter dress. Hooray!! What do I love more than being featured in an Etsy Treasury?
Featuring that person on my blog! To say thank you for taking the time to create a treasury, and for selecting my super chic VESPA JUMPER in your collection!
So I went over to the shop of the Etsy seller that featured me...and what did I see? One of my most favorite items to keep in my diaper bag. Sometime to cover up those plain plastic cases, and to avoid having to buy more yucky plastic cases...a fabric-covered wipe case! And where can you get one of these modern wipe cases for a stylish baby shower gift?
With a super fun MONSTER RE-OPENING, GIVEAWAY, and SALE!!!

I live outside of the USA. Can I enter the giveaway?
Yes!!! Our monster giveaway is open to everyone,
everywhere. No matter where you live, this awesome handmade gift could be yours! So spread the word!!
How does this giveaway work?
On the day of the drawing, a random number generator will
select a number. After all
the number is drawn, the winner will be counted based upon the order in
which they comment here in this post. For example: If you are commenter #23,
and the number drawn is #23, then commenter #23 will be the lucky recipient of that handmade goodness! Please note: I keep track of the entries in my eMail folder, where they are numbered. They are also watched to avoid duplicates, and any invalid entries, etc. So please do not rely on the number you think you may be, because in the end that may not be accurate, and your number may have changed. Hope that makes sense! :)
How will I know if I won that awesomeness? I will contact the winner via eMail to congratulate you and to request your mailing address. And that's when I'll also ask the size needed (newborn thru age 10), and color too. You will then have 7 days to respond to the eMail from me, Joey & Aleethea.
Otherwise another winner will be picked. Ack!
If I win, who will ship my lovely handmade item to me?
I will personally sew and then ship your gorgeous handmade item directly to you! And oh happy day when that super cool monster hoody arrives at your door!!! :D
We're wearing our 3 shirt as much as possible these days, giving it a good farewell. Next month my kiddo turns 4. Wow. 4 years since he was 4 days overdue. 4 years since the moment I first saw his face. 4 years since the day he made me a Mama. oxox
Just in case you can't read it...here's what it says:
"by Sabrina James
Ironically fancy-shmancy, this applique necktie tee is a cool way for
your little romantic to show his Valentine spirit. The tie is made of
super-soft minky velour, making your babe even more huggable (if that's
even possible). ($30)"
How fun is that scarf? Super colorful! Would look so cute on with your favorite pair of jeans and a nice thick dark grey or navy blue sweater. Reminds me of classic Gap outfits and relaxing winter days.
Gorgeous, right? LOVE it. It's a genuine mink fur ring!! How fun and beautiful.
And another thank you is going out to a London-based photographer by the name of heidiadnum:
She has stunning captures such as this one in her shop:
Just an amazing photo, isn't it?
And nope...not done yet! Thank you so much to this Etsy peep...who doesn't even have an Etsy shop!! This treasury was curated by an Etsy buyer with a name that reminds me of an old friend who used to always say "dothemath". Featured our Space Monster Changing Pad and Play Mat Deluxe here:
And last but certainly not least! Katheyl from Munich Germany featured our Monster Cupcake Dress here in her Etsy Treasury:
Katheyl has super fab jewelry in her shop, check out this necklace that I'm loving:
Isn't that awesome?? Reminds me of a necklace my Mom is wearing in a photo from the early 70's. I'll post that photo for you to see someday...complete with funky beehive and all!
ok whew! I think that's it for the Etsy treasuries.
That's my baby girl Lily!! Check her out lounging on the window all barefoot, rockin' her super cool and hip Vespa Jumper Dress!!
The article is entitled "Turquoise -- the color of 2010". Turquoise
is Pantone's predicted color of the year -- and in the article turquoise is referred to as the "hip shade for our lives." Super fun and agreed! We adore
turquoise. You can find many turquoise items in our
shop. And you can order your very own handmade Vespa Jumper
Dress right here.
Here's my brown-eyed girl who says "yah!!!" when I say "photo shoot" or "fashion show":
I love her in that modern Vespa Jumper!!! I love her in anything though. But the above turquoise dress is available in my shop here. :D
Today I've got some awesome and silly sock monkey outfits going out to a local customer in Raleigh, and some gorgeous modern dresses for little girls are being shipped as far away as Sweden and Norway!
I've added many new designs to my shop, inclusive of the completely super fab handmade dresses and outfits such as this one -- and I'll show you below:
Also arriving in my shop this week are some more ROCS a.k.a. "Rings of Cuteness" :) such as this cute little sheep, owl, tree, mushroom, and robot -- along with some coordinating items:
Lily is getting so big -- she's tall enough to reach the doorknob already!
I made that beanie for Lily a few days before she was born. That's the very same hat she wore minutes after she was born! She came home from the hospital in that hat!! Isn't that awesome? That's why it's called the Awesome Beanie.
The above extra fab Pink and Slate dress will also be available in my shop soon!
And below is my baby girl in a super fun and super colorful mod Books and Elephants dress. Isn't she awesome??!! The fab little dress is available here.
She loves hanging out by that window in the playroom, and playing peekaboo with the curtains. :D
And this is the hilariously cute and angry face Joey gives me when he's had his fill of photos:
Today's my nephew's birthday -- hoping he had a great day!! We miss and love him so much -- he's in PA, probably freezing right now. I love that kid so much. He's 20 years old today! Wow.
So I was looking at old photos of my witty nephew Alex -- and found this little gem. Here's a photo of Alex and I at CityWalk in Orlando, FL in 2005:
I posted that photo especially for my nephew Alex, to remind him of how much fun we had while he visited us...and hopefully this photo will help him remember the nice warm days of summer.
haha..ok --that was a total lie! I'm actually posting this photo because when else will I be stare at my pre-pregnancy weight right here on my blog, every single day as my self-motivation??!! This shot was taken one month before finding out I was pregnant with Joey, during the lazy summer days of 2005. Then again -- not such lazy days -- I had returned to school the year prior and was finishing up college again, taking 5 classes with a 4.0 GPA. Good times!
By the way -- if you're wondering what my shirt says, it says "Quit Whining". How ironic...now 4 years later with 2 kiddos under 4 yrs old...I wish I still had that shirt! Maybe THAT would work. hehe.
I weighed 145lbs at the time -- but always had a slim and athletic build, so the numbers on the scale never meant much to me. But gosh this was dozens of pounds ago! And I was slim all my life...always playing sports...and now...2 children later...and breastfeeding them for 3 1/2 years straight...holy moly...it's time to get crackin!
Isn't it gorgeous? it is so vintagey-cool with the screenprint and paint. The shade of brown is so caramel and fantastic. It's nice and and roomy too -- will fit all sorts of snot-nosed kiddy stuff in it. Diapers, wipes, an extra monster shirt for layering, etc.
Oh! And here are some new monster shirts that will be available in my shop soon:
And if you're getting ready for Valentine's Day -- check this out --this adorable "Baby Love" shirt for your little boy is available in my shop!!
